Knee ligament reconstruction is the surgical process of repairing or replacing it with another ligament. There are four main ligaments found in the knee:  the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL), the medial collateral ligament (MCL), and the lateral collateral ligament (LCL). 

ACL and PCL are ideally reconstructed with another ligament and MCL and LCL are repaired in acute settings.

These ligaments are crucial in obtaining dynamic control of the knee joint, especially in high-demand situations such as playing sports. 

Intensive rehabilitation is crucial post-operatively for the successful outcome of the operation.
